Q: What should I wear to the Anand Karaj?
A: Women will be most comfortable in long dresses or long dress pants, as most people will be seated on the floor (see our 'Anand Karaj' tab). Shoulders and legs should be covered.
Ladies wishing to purchase Indian attire may shop for a Kameez and pajami or churidar bottoms, or an Anarkali suit (both such outfits will come with a shawl which is used as a head covering inside the gurdwara).
Men may wish to wear suits, or blazers and dress shirts with dress slacks.
Both men and women must cover their heads inside the gurdwara. We will provide bandanas for our guests who do not have their own head coverings.
Q: What should I wear to the civil ceremony and reception?
A: We hope our wedding will be a great excuse to break out your best cocktail attire or fave sari/lehenga/anarkali suit! Please note that the Glencoe Golf & Country Club’s dress code does not allow jeans, cargo pants/shorts or flip flops to be worn on site.
Q: When is the RSVP date?
A: We would love to hear from you as soon as you are able to let us know whether you will be able to join us! Please visit the ‘RSVP’ tab to let us know of your plans.
For those who need more time, we are requesting the favour of your reply by 31st March. While we know this is early, we require ample time to make arrangements with caterers, shuttle providers and other vendors for our events on both Friday and Saturday. We appreciate your understanding.
Q: Are children invited?
A: Children are welcome at the Anand Karaj on Friday morning. Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate children at our reception on Saturday.
Q: Can I bring a date/friend?
A: We are unfortunately unable to accommodate plus-ones.
Q: Is the ceremony indoors or outdoors?
A: Friday’s ceremony and langar will be inside the gurdwara.
Our fingers are crossed for good weather on Saturday as we hope to have our civil ceremony outdoors. If we find ourselves dodging raindrops that day, the Glencoe has a beautiful indoor room available for our ceremony. Our reception that evening will take place indoors.
Q: Is transportation provided?
A: Please see our ‘Civil Ceremony + Reception’ tab for information about transportation options to and from our ceremony and reception on Saturday, 1st June.
Q: Whom do I advise of my dietary restrictions?
A: Our RSVP form includes a space for you to let us know of any allergies or dietary restrictions that you may have.
Vegetarians will be happy to hear that Friday’s lunch is 100% vegetarian. A vegetarian option will be available for Saturday’s dinner.
Those with nut allergies are in good company, as Laura is also allergic to all nuts. All food at both events will be nut-free.
Q: Where can I smoke?
A: In accordance with religious practice, the gurdwara building and its outdoor premises are strictly non-smoking (including vaping). Cigarettes and tabacco products are not allowed in the gurdwara’s prayer room.
Smoking at the Glencoe Golf & Country Club is permitted only in the parking area.
Q: Are you setting up a gift registry?
A: We hope that you can join us at our wedding celebrations, and your company is all that we need to make the events special.
For those who wish to mark the occasion with a gift, we would greatly appreciate a contribution towards our home renovation fund.
Q: Whom do I contact if I have any other questions?
A: Shoot us an email at wedding@riar.ca with any other questions you may have!
